Sketching dog’s eyes…

This sketch I finshed has a focus towards this puppy’s face and eyes. Its vulnerability, fear, unconditional love and youth seem to exude from it’s eyes. I think that is the reason I am drawn (excuse the pun) to dogs of all kinds. When I begin a sketch, I am thinking of what a dog may be thinking about in that moment. Perhaps it is a meal, a toy, or a positive affirmation from its owner? The eyes really seem to bring out the humanness of the dog!

This sweet puppy is looking for love and affection from a new adopted family. A pup full of fur, shows us the anticipation in its eyes! My intent when I sketch these pups, is to capture their essence, their soulful character that I see in their eyes. But that is only part of it…

Almost Human Characteristics…

Haven’t we all seen dogs that almost look like their parents? We treat our pets as members of the family and sometimes expect them to wear clothes, costumes and shoes! And the looks we get from our pets are priceless. Here are a few of my sketches with those omg looks:

Oh no, the sweater is coming!
Really Mommy?
