Dream “big” or go home…

Or, I’m just reminiscing about the “big” trip to Montana and Glacier National Park…

Back early in 2018, I planned a July trip to Montana that that would take me on one of the most fun adventures EVER! Talk about going BIG! My traveler at the time booked the flight into Denver’s airport and we made our way out of Colorado, through a piece of Wyoming, and into that majestic, wide open state of Montana.

On the road

Beginning in cowboy country, or SW Montana, we visited Miles City and stopped by Little Bighorn Battlefield where Custer’s last stand took place, or as our native brothers refer to, as the Battle of the Greasy Grass. A BIG expanse of land with gentle rolling hills and grave markers of the fallen dotted the landscape.

Eventually making our way west, we headed towards Livingston, MT and points north from there, stopping in Helena, and a ghost town in between. The state capitol building with its beautiful dome and a mural that depicted the last stake driven at Promontory Point, was BIG and illustrated the Western Expansion (1803-1890).

Over the course of several days, we made it to Glacier NP and headed towards the Going to the Sun road that I had specified as a BIG must do while in Montana. Along the way, those majestic peaks with snow still on them in July, reached up to nearly knock on heaven’s door! Spectacular! The drive was stunning and narrow, but I wasn’t looking down!

With parking at a premium at the Visitor’s Center, we ended up at a small parking area at the entrance to the Avalanche Lake trail. Its initial one mile prelude began in old growth forests, and then after about three and one half miles up and then down, we arrived at Avalanche Lake. The glaciers that surrounded us were BIG! But, thats putting it mildly. It is a sight that will be etched on my brain forever more.

The trip wasn’t over, as we made several other stops and continued our adventures out of Glacier and down through Flathead Lake, Polson, Arlee and into Missoula.

Dream BIG or go home!

So my mantra today, after eyeing a picture that reminded me of my trip, was “Dream big or go home!” Whether at work, home or trying something new, dream BIG and make it worthwhile! We only live once.
