How I Incorporate Textures into my home decor

How I Incorporate Textures into my home decor

Adding texture through the use of different organic materials, such as metal, plant and animal fibers and of course wood products, can elevate your design esthetic. These types of textures can add contrast and another dimension to your decor, much like artwork you hang on your walls. Not to mention, the multifunctional aspect of some decor pieces. Below, see some of my personal pieces that I have incorporated into my Southwestern Boho esthetic:

Plant based textiles

Woven basket with wall hanging

Usually made of cotton, coir, hemp, linen or ramie. Here on my bedroom wall, I found a beautiful cotton blend table runner with a pretty tassel detail to hang along with a woven basket with the same color connection. The Aztec type design went along with my Southwestern Boho style.

Embellishments

In adding texture, I look for tassels, fringe or needlework on throws or blankets to give an otherwise plain piece of furniture, some balance.

Woven Textiles

Animal Fibers, and woven natural fiber pillows

Animal Based Textiles

Textiles made from this fiber usually come from the fur or skin of an animal. I purchased this small cowskin from a Native American seller in GA who uses all of the parts of the animal to promote sustainability.

This piece was given to me and I immediately saw it as a woven metal piece of art to hang!
